Full Or Partial Dentures
A full or partial denture is used to fill and strengthen sections of the mouth where teeth have been removed.
Dentures are custom made for a variety of purposes. They can be used to give support to the bite for existing natural teeth. A full or partial denture is used to fill and strengthen sections of missing teeth. Dentures act as a bridge to strengthen the mouth and bite. At Montrose Dental the dental care provider will determine whether a full or partial denture is needed, depending on overall condition of the gums and jaw bone.
Dentures can become a permanent choice for when natural teeth are no longer able to provide sustainability for a healthy lifestyle. Made for the comfort and care of the patient, you can speak with our Dental team about when dentures may become the right option for your health and lifestyle.
A denture is a removable dental prosthesis used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Denture
A denture is a removable dental prosthesis used to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Dentures are custom-made to fit an individual’s mouth and restore the appearance and functionality of natural teeth. They are commonly used when a person has lost some or all of their teeth due to factors such as tooth decay, gum disease, injury, or other dental issues.
- Complete Dentures: These are used when all natural teeth are missing. Complete dentures can be further classified into two types:
– Conventional Complete Dentures: These are made after all remaining natural teeth have been removed, and the gums have had time to heal. The patient is without teeth during the healing period.
– Immediate Complete Dentures: These are prepared in advance and can be placed immediately after the natural teeth are extracted. Immediate dentures provide the advantage of not being without teeth during the healing period, but adjustments may be needed as the gums heal and change shape.
- Partial Dentures: These are used when some natural teeth remain. Partial dentures consist of replacement teeth attached to a base that may be made of metal or acrylic. They are designed to blend in with the natural teeth and must be removed for cleaning.
The process of getting dentures typically involves several appointments:
- Initial Consultation: The dentist assesses the patient’s oral health, takes impressions, and discusses the type of denture that will be most suitable.
- Fitting and Measurement: Impressions are taken to create a mold of the patient’s mouth. The dentist or dental technician uses these impressions to create custom-fitted dentures.
- Try-In: Before the final dentures are produced, a try-in may be done to ensure proper fit and appearance. Adjustments can be made at this stage if necessary.
- Final Placement: Once the dentures are ready, the patient returns for the final placement. The dentist ensures that the dentures fit well and provides instructions on care and maintenance.
Dentures require regular cleaning and proper care to maintain oral health. While dentures are a suitable solution for many people, they may take some time to get used to, and adjustments may be needed over time due to changes in the oral tissues.
It’s important for individuals with dentures to have regular check-ups with their dentist to ensure the dentures fit properly, address any issues, and monitor overall oral health.
